The Honeymoon

Travel is in our relationship DNA. We met while on safari in Africa, got to know each other travelling through North America and married in Fiji.

With such a travelled history, it just makes sense that our Honeymoon would be a nine month round-the-world adventure, sending us to over 20 countries across 5 continents. In each location we've tried to summarize our experiences with blog posts and photos. Below is a quick summary of our most recent adventures along with links to blog posts.

Australia
We spent three months road-tripping the East Coast of Australia beginning in Batemans Bay, with stops in Sydney, Forster, Coffs Harbour, South West Rocks, Gold Coast and finally up to Bundaberg. Along the way we saw some great sights, caught some fish, caught some waves and eventually found a place to live.

Cambodia
Cambodia started off really bumpy for us but we soon learned to love it. Our initial trip into Cambodia was a 17.5 hour bus ride from Saigon (HCMC) to Siem Reap with a stop, more like stranded, in Phnom Pehn. Once in Siem Reap our luck changed, we met Sam, a great Tuk-Tuk driver, who showed us all the Temples of Angkor and sights we could ever have wanted to see. The floating village of Kompung Phhluk and the Landmine Museum really stand out in my mind when thinking of Siem Reap.

Canada
Banff was our only stop in Canada on this particular trip. We had a great few days snowboarding at Sunshine Village and Lake Louise. We saw and did a lot in the few days in Banff and look forward to going back sometime in the future.

Cayman Islands
One day on Grand Cayman was all we were granted as part of our Caribbean Cruise. Unfortunately there's no way one day can do this island nation justice but we tried. The water is beautiful and the people are friendly. Hopefully we can make it back there for an extended stay.

Egypt
Egypt was a tough place to visit with many highs and lows. So soon after the revolution we found many services unavailable and the hawkers seemingly desperate for any business and willing to do or say anything to get you in the door. Focusing only on the positive, the Giza Pyramids, Abu Simbel, our Nile Cruise and the Red Sea resort towns of Sharm-El-Sheikh and Dahab were all such a great experience. Unfortunately Mt. Sinai was one of my least favourite experiences on the trip.

Fiji
The beginning of our trip. We were very blessed to have our family and friends join us for a week in Fiji to celebrate our wedding. The Shangri-La Resort was the venue and we had the best time. I could never have imagined such a wonderful experience.

France
What round-the-world honeymoon would be complete without a trip to Paris. We spent three very busy days in Paris taking in most of the main sights and trying out some great food.

Greece
Athens was a blast from the past. We loved the food, people and the sights that make this historical city a one of a kind. Unfortunately we only spent a few days here but can't wait to go back for a tour of the Greek Islands.

Honduras
Unfortunately we only spent one beach filled day in Honduras as part of our Caribbean Cruise. The country seemed like a beautiful place and somewhere you can spend weeks of relaxation.

India
I find it really hard to summarize India. At times psychologically taxing, India is a unique and rewarding destination with so many places to see and things to do that should be a must do for any experienced traveller. We spent three weeks touring India in which time we spotted a wild tiger, visited the Taj Mahal, the temples of Kama Sutra, and experienced the rich history and culture of Delhi, Orchha, Karauli and Jaipur

Jordan
Definitely one of the highlights of our whole trip, Jordan, with it's unique sights and scenery, should be a must for any traveller. We loved the historical and religious significance of so many sights. Some of our favourite stops of our whole trip were the  Dead Sea, Petra and Wadi Rum. Some great experiences include our Spa Day and Pamela learning how to make Sand Art.

Maldives
Ahhhh, the Maldives. This was the Honeymoon destination we'd always dreamed of and it definitely lived up to the billing. A week in the Maldives was just what the Dr. ordered between our trips to Nepal and India. It took two articles, part 1 and part 2, to describe just how great this paradise truly was.

Mexico
During our Caribbean Cruise we made two stops at ports of call in Mexico. The first stop, Cozumel, we spent shopping along the waterfront shops. Costa Maya, our second Mexican stop, we spent relaxing on the white sand beach. This was my (DW) second trip to Cozumel and I really don't need to ever go back.

Nepal
We loved Nepal. Nepal is a country so rich in culture and adventure that it's definitely a must stop on anyone's rtw adventure and we'll definitely be going back. During our trip we trekked, rafted and hiked all while enjoying great food and some of the nicest locals you'll meet anywhere on the planet. One of the highlights of the whole trip was spotting rhinos on elephant back in Chitwan National Park.

Thailand
Three weeks in Thailand is just never enough. We spent the first part of our Honeymoon in Hua Hin before heading north to Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai where we spent an afternoon playing with tigers and riding elephants. Pamela's time and video with the tiger cubs is definitely one of the highlights of our whole trip. We wrapped up the South-East Asia portion of our trip with eight nights on what turned out to be the island of Koh Chang. Fortunately for us we made the best of it.
Turkey
Turkey blew us away each and every day. Knowing little about Turkey we had no expectations when we arrived and boy did we leave pleased. We started our adventure in Istanbul then travelled to Gallipoli and Troy, Selcuk, Pamukkale, Fethiye, Olympus and finally the outdoor paradise of Cappadocia where we visited an underground city called Kaymakli. Each stop along the way brought us new surprises, adventures and historical significance along with great food and wonderful locals that enhanced each and every stop.

United Arab Emirates
We ended the Middle East portion of our trip with three nights in Abu Dhabi. During which we did some great shopping and sight-seeing along with a fun desert safari which included the can't miss dune bashing.

United States
From the Middle East we travelled to the United States where we spent time with family and friends before heading off on a Caribbean Cruise, an Art Deco stop in South Florida, a week on St. John in the US Virgin Islands and snowboarding in Park City and Reno. We loved catching up with family and friends and had a great time in the States before we headed back to Australia.

Vietnam
Our trip to Vietnam had us stopping in Hanoi for a few nights before a cruise on Halong Bay. We spent about a week in the Hoi An area where we ate great food and stopped at Marble Mountain before heading down to Saigon where we toured the war museums and the Cu Chi Tunnels. We enjoyed the food and culture of Vietnam and loved the beaches.
